Tips to Keep your Precious Pearl Jewelery Nice and Shine
Jewelry is a woman’s best friend; everybody agrees about that. And a best friend needs great, personal care, especially the pearl jewelry. Pearl is one of the most versatile jewelry; it goes well with a ball gown or formal suit, cocktail party or executive-level meeting. But pearl jewelry is also delicate and therefore prone to damage if not properly cared for.
Here are some tips to keep your precious pearl jewelry nice and shine.
1.Never clean a pearl with alcohol or acid cleaners.
Because these gems are an organic product, alcohol and acid-based cleaners can eat right through it, damaging the pearl significantly and dramatically reducing its beauty and value.
2. Touch the surface of the pearls as little as possible. If your pearl is set in a ring, handle the ring by holding the band instead of the pearl.
3. Commercial jewelry cleaner, ultrasonic cleaning machine or an abrasive material like baking soda and kitchen cleanser are not the best stuffs to clean your pearl jewelry. If you want to clean your pearl jewelry, using moistened soft cloth is enough.
4.Store your pearls in soft cloth.
Because these gemstones can be easily scratched by other pieces of jewelry, store them in a separate place in your jewelry box. Keep them wrapped in a soft pouch or cloth to protect them scuffing or scratching.
5. Put on your pearl jewelry after you finished applying your perfume, makeup, hairspray, or lotion. These substances can leave a fine coating on the surface of your pearls that will erode their luster.
6. Chlorine in pool water clearly has damaging effect. So Remove your pearl jewelry before you swim.
7. If there is a string on your pearl jewelry, like in necklace or bracelet, restring it at least every two years at jewelry store. The silk threads joining the strand together can wear out. Have the jeweler tie knots between each pearl to keep them from rubbing against each other. The knots will also keep you from losing all of your pearls if the thread should break.
8. Last but not least, do not wear your pearl jewelry way too often. It is better if we keep them clean and preserved after a long time of use.
